It dates back to ancient Greece around 400 BCE, where the philosopher Democritus first speculated about the existence of indivisible particles called "atomos." However, it wasn't until the 19th and 20th centuries that scientific experiments and discoveries by pioneering scientists laid the foundation for modern atomic theory.
